Reader's Journal
In the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie did an excellent job at showing how horrible life currently is on reservations, with all the booze, violence, and death that never seems to stop. I think that Sherman Alexie also did a marvelous job at making his characters relatable, such a amazing job in fact, that even someone such as me who could never possibly understand how the characters in the book would feel, could still find them relatable. I believe that Sherman Alexie really did a terrific job with The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian because when I read the book, I didn't feel that it was a fiction. I felt that the events that had occurred in the book were truly unfolding in reality right in front of my eyes as I read. The imagery that Sherman Alexie used for the book was extraordinarily specific and precise that as I was reading I felt I could actually meet the characters walking along the sidewalk in a town or actually visit the places Sherman Alexie had depicted. I loved the overly extreme sense of design in Sherman Alexie's characters as well as the settings in the book, therefore I do believe that his book deserved each and every award it has gotten.
I personally loved all of Sherman Alexie's characters because of how deeply he described each one. In his book, he goes on to describe each character with so much attention to the little things that as you read the book, you feel like every character could really be an actual person. What I really loved about the characters in the book was that instead of just giving them rough sizes, shapes, and thoughts. By describing each and every character in extreme scrutinizing detail, Sherman Alexie was able to go above and beyond in making each character individual and special. I also really enjoyed the scenery that Sherman Alexie portrayed in his book. When Junior and Rowdy climbed the huge pine tree on the reservation and they were almost at the top, Sherman Alexie described what Junior and Rowdy could see in very vivid detail. I personally believe that Sherman Alexie has done a most wonderful job with the extreme sense of detail in his characters and scenery, as well as the story and everything else in the amazing book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
